What changed in 2026
- Labour Codes (in force from 21 November 2025): wages must be at least 50% of total pay, so basic can no longer be kept low to cut PF and gratuity.
- EPF wage ceiling raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026, so PF on the ceiling went up from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000 a month on each side.
- Income-tax Act 2025 applies from 1 April 2026. New-regime slabs are unchanged, and taxable income up to ₹12 lakh still pays no tax.
- Odisha stopped professional tax on salaries from 1 April 2026.
- Karnataka professional tax: ₹200 a month from ₹25,000 salary, ₹300 in February - ₹2,500 a year.
Many calculators online still use the ₹15,000 PF ceiling or a 40% basic, so they show a higher in-hand than your payslip will.
How we calculate it
- Basic is at least 50% of fixed CTC, as the Labour Codes (in force from 21 November 2025) require. Below that, the engine raises it to 50% and tells you.
- Employer and employee PF are 12% of basic each, on basic up to ₹25,000 a month (the ceiling from 17 September 2026), or on full basic if you choose that.
- Gratuity is 4.81% of basic, inside CTC unless you untick it.
- ESI applies when gross is ₹21,000 a month or less: 0.75% from you, 3.25% from the employer.
- Professional tax follows your state’s slab. Half-yearly and February-loaded states are shown as a monthly average.
- Income tax follows the Income-tax Act 2025 for tax year 2026-27: the new regime by default, with the old regime (HRA, 80C, 80D, home loan, NPS) always computed beside it to compare.
- Variable pay is taxed in the year it is paid. Pick whether the TDS is spread over the year or cut in the payout month.
